Lavamind games are ranged from about $30-$40 normally. Serpengo seems to be their first release as an arcade game at $19.99. Originality is to be expected from this group, and you can find it here. Lately, we have seen many snakes made of balls as the target.
In this game, you control the snake. Using arrow keys, you build the snake with marbles you run into on the playing field. A game better be good, if it uses the keyboard instead of the mouse. This game passes the test. It is enjoyable and challenging, avoiding obstacles on your mission. The concept is straight forward. Serpengo is a logic puzzle. Speed becomes an issue as you progress through the levels. There are various modes of game play to choose from. You have to “be alert” to progress through the levels on this one.
Themes can be chosen in advance or you can allow the 4 themes to change according to the built in settings. In addition to the game music, sound effects corresponding to the current theme are added. The game sound effects are set a bit high, so you may want to reduce it. That way there isn’t a huge difference between between the music and the sound effects. The graphics are very nice.
It will be interesting to see the general response to this game in the next few months.
